Services Workbook
Turn the skills you already have into a clear set of services you can confidently offer. Work through it in order, filling in as you go. You can fill it in on screen and print it to keep.
What services should I offer?
When you're starting your VA business, one of the first questions that comes up is "what services should I offer?" It can feel like a lot of pressure to get right, but most VAs don't stick with their original services forever.
As you begin working with clients, you'll get a much clearer idea of what's actually needed and what you enjoy, and your services will naturally evolve from there. The most important thing is to start.
You already have skills you can create services from, plus experience from previous jobs. Using the skills you already have is the most sensible place to begin, because you'll feel confident delivering them. So let's start there.
1. Your previous experience
Start by listing tasks you have previously (or currently) performed. These can be from your current or previous job roles, or even your personal life. Maybe you organised colleagues' diaries and monitored their inbox, or you're the family member who always plans the big events or holidays. These are all useful skills you can turn into services.
2. Services clients need
Add each task you listed above into the table. For each one, research how it could be turned into a service (for example, monitoring an email inbox could become a one off email inbox detox), then research whether it's a service potential clients actually need.
| Task | Service I could offer | Do clients need this? |
|---|---|---|
3. The services you will offer
From your table, focus on the ones where potential clients need the service. From those, choose up to five to create your service list. When choosing, pick ones you enjoy doing (don't pick a service you hate) and feel confident in, as that helps when you're talking to potential clients.
4. Defining your services
It's really important to be clear about what your service offers and what it doesn't. It prevents confusion and makes working together a better experience for you and your client. For each of your services, fill in the details below.
5. Now, the price
Now you have your five services, along with what each one includes and what it doesn't. That is real progress, and it is genuinely useful when you talk to potential clients, market your services and build your website.
The final piece is pricing them, which is often the trickiest part of starting out. Inside the membership we've built a Pricing Calculator that works out your hourly rate and service prices for you, so you never undercharge, along with lots more resources to help you start and grow your VA business.
